Sometimes I wonder if the monarchs themselves really want a restoration. For one thing, when they lost their thrones, politics and economics were less complicated. A nation with nothing much more than farms was and is easier than running a modern nation with all of its complexity. You could run things with a pretty modest education. These days, you need to be sharp and near-genius level to be a successful President or Prime Minister.

Also, being off the throne means royals are freer to pursue their own interests-personal or political without worrying about the effects of doing so. A son of an overthrown king can be doctor, dentist, or diviner if politics isn’t his thing.

And lets not forget that being overthrown in a revolution means that there were some pretty hard feelings about the monarchy to begin with. Want to start over and try to win those folks over?
