Every government does, for one of two reasons:
1. It threatens their control.
2. It’s not backed by anything, but it if it were to become a significant currency, it’s collapse would rock economies. It’s the modern version of tulips.
The dollar/euro/yuan/pound/yen collapsing would do the same. Bitcoin capitalization right now is but a tiny fraction of the world’s available currencies, and even as a proponent of the technology, I doubt it will ever become a major player in the world economy. Cultists believe it will replace all fiat currencies in the future, but they’re frankly nuts.
