re: #62 karmic_inquisitor

While speaking of semantic chicanery and dishonesty, Obama has just characterized the differences between Republicans and Democrats on the “stimulus” bill as, get this -

“very modest”

President Barack Obama said Monday that “very modest differences” over a massive package to revive the economy should not delay its swift passage, a fresh appeal to Congress as the nation dealt with another dose of dire financial news.

If the differences are very modest, and swift passage is important, in his shoes I’d give the other side much of the modest modifications it asks, get a landslide positive vote for the measure in the Senate, and sign it into law promptly. After all, what they’ll sign off on is only a very modest distance from me getting it all my way. And I don’t aspire to having everything exactly my way all the time.
