re: #121 Killgore Trout

I grew up overseas in a State Dept family. The schools I attended had kids from all the embassies there, Zaire, Zimbabwe, Yemen, Jordan, you name it. In about 1980 my best friend was a Yugoslavian whose father claimed to be a journalist but was probably an intelligence officer. My dad had to file paperwork every time I went to his house. When I’d visit his mom would say, “Capitalist kids are too skinny. We need to fatten you up!” and bring out plates and plates of food. I’d say “Thank you, Communist food sure is good”. Everybody had a good time.

We had a Jewish family as house guest in our home in Tehran. The escaped across the border, the matriarch spent time in Gulags. She also born a tattoo from the Nazi camps.

She didn’t have too many good times.
