I got to climb around in a PBY Catalina and a B-17 in western NY back in the early 90s. And also attend an airshow there a year later with a Thunderbirds appearance that included an Ontario group bringing in the only flying Lancaster in North America. Plus a lot of other old warbirds.

That group had some sort of spat and broke up. Part of it moved down to Elmira, NY to use a concrete field and I’m not sure what has happened to the side that owned the grassfield. And I think they ended up selling off the B-17 at some point. (Yep. Google indicates that the plane is now based in California.)

I have never seen a Catalina in flight…fortunately for me, my hometown Kalamazoo, for many years held one of the premier air shows in the country, and it is home to the Air Zoo….they fly most of their warbirds regularly…it was awarded a Blackbird a few years ago, static of course
