Someone once gave me a justification for saving the 10,000 fertilized eggs over the 30 grade school children.

“The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.”

I had no comeback for that one.

“Logic is only the beginning of wisdom. It is not the end”.

On a serious note, those of who think about healthcare ethics (as in my field, which revolves around how to make the best use scare healthcare resources) understand that while utilitarianism is a useful philosophy, it has its limits.
