Lack of reasoning is not insanity.
Lack of compassion is not insanity.
Lack of honesty is not insanity.

Insanity would mean the Hoft’s actions were beyond his control, which there’s no evidence for. He knows how to lie. He knows how to dissemble when caught in a lie. He knows how to make a profit from the paranoid things he write, and how to keep fishing in other people.

Yeah, the line between sane/insane gets blurry when you get into irrational belief structures, but the guy who’s job is to lie about stuff is not a likely candidate for the latter. This isn’t a man who’s scared or tormented by strange thoughts, this is a guy who finds reasons excuses to feel superior, to feel that he has perfect moral clarity while condemning others as undeserving of basic recognition as people.
