This whole “the Founding Fathers fought against slavery” thing is an interesting development. I guess it’s an attempt to allow Republicans, especially in the South, to pretend that slavery was actually an aberration from the One True Path of Right Wing Serious People, rather than a built-in feature of that system that was only eliminated through progressivism (and also through the economic self-interest of some right-wing Northerners, no doubt).

Hence the lies and the obfuscation.
