The 737 MAX was, apparently, a new airframe. And a rather bad design at that.

Wasn’t/isn’t, though, the core of the 737 MAX problem being that it isn’t a “new” airframe, but an old one with a new wings/engines configuration? And that Boeing sold the G on the idea that it was just another “upgrade” in order to avoid an extensive (and expensive) recertification process? Despite the fact that the new configuration altered the plane’s maneuvering characteristics enough to necessitate the auto-system workaround that 1. They didn’t tell anyone about and 2. Didn’t work well?
