Wanted to turn the ton, just once, so I used the autobahn while on temporary duty in Vilseck. I had a tight little rental Opel, and got it over with the help of a steep hill. I’ve had my thumper on the autostrada, but it floats like mad around 90.

We would occasionally have to go onto the Autobahn during road marches for REFORGER. 65 tons of steel moving at 30 mph max (downhill with tailwind, etc) vs the German drivers in a 1 to 2 ton car a 100 mph. Usually they’d just blow past and everything was fine, but when there was an accident, it was pretty horrific.
