I tried to see it on that same Thanksgiving weekend as I saw the natural history museum. It had just reopened that week and the line for the star-spangled banner (the real flag that flew over Fort McHenry) was over 2 hours long. The whole place was a mob scene. Everywhere you turned were people dressed as historical characters and bands playing — I don’t even know what, it was so loud. But I had been to the old, unrenovated museum and it was terrific. I hope to go back on a quieter day.

trips to the Mall need to be well thought out…I saw them cleaning and refurbishing Old Glory down in the basement….makes you think
