Growing up Black in southern California, with both parents Great Migration southerners with the integrationist ethic, my personal experience does not allow that luxury.

But again, my own experience is by no means unique. I come from a long line of people with similar, and far more harsh experience, and that’s even after factoring in the queer angle.

Er… I’m sorry, but we seem to be constantly talking at cross purposes. My point was that the sort of racism in the South and North was different, and that that actually matters; it takes different efforts to combat different sorts of racism. I don’t know understand anything you mean about not having that luxury; obviously you were confronted with whatever sort of racism that you were, but that doesn’t obviate that there are demonstrably different forms of racism.

I haven’t. Is it fiction? My friends get on me for this, but I’m not into fiction unless it from like 18th c continental Europe :/

Well, that’s a rather limited purview. Yes, it is, and in it there’s an academic order of monks who stay separate from the workaday world for ten, a hundred, or a thousand years at a time. So, when they open their gates and re-encounter the world, they may find any number of different reactions. So, before they do, they interview some people from the outside world to find out their current attitudes. Do they think the monks have special powers? Do they think they have secrets worth plundering? Do they think that they’re amiable buffoons not to be trusted with important tasks, or cunning, ruthless masterminds? Etc.

Similarly, someone who thinks that Jews are destroying Western culture through liberalism and must be stopped are a different sort of beast to someone who thinks that Jews and white people should have as little to do with each other as possible, and avoids Jews.

They’re both bad, they both suck, but it’s important to differentiate between them.
