OT kitteh break, because I’m ridiculously enamored of my 100mm macro lens—it takes beautiful portraits. I seriously need to find some human subjects to practice on because my cats have just about had enough.

Both photos were taken in existing, natural early afternoon light at 1/320 of a sec at f/3.2, ISO 3200. As you can see, even stopped down to f/3.2, the depth of field is very shallow (the camera was focused on the eye in both shots):

Bird-watching, taken from a few feet away

Much closer, but not macro (they don’t like the camera shoved in their faces)

For the inveterate pixel peepers, below is a crop of just the eye from the 2nd photo at 100% (hidden behind a spoiler tag so as not to unnerve anyone with the ginormous cat’s eye, heh).

Note that despite the graininess caused by the somewhat high ISO, you can nonetheless clearly see the window and even the sky, clouds and building across the street reflected in her eye.

I got a couple of decent shots of my other (black & white) cat, but she looks a lot like Peanut and I didn’t want to give RWC a sad.

Now if only they’d let me get close enough and hold still so I could shoot an actual 1:1 macro of something besides noses or fur…
