I have to admit, although not being a homophobe in the slighest, I still use homophobic language without thinking about it that I am trying to stop myself from doing. My GF (correctly) points out the number of times derogatorily refer to something as “gay”.

Yeah, that depends on your age too. We used to kid around like that back in the 70s using other words. Didn’t mean any harm. Right now it’s common to do what you describe although they say it’s not really a good thing to do. We’re not all perfect of course. What I was originally describing was some of the real vile pathological stuff which is common with just about anything on the internet but most particularly regarding gays.
