Regarding Ali. I heard George Foreman on ESPN radio earlier today. He had some great stories and it showed how much he admired him even after suffering a defeat to him in the Rumble in the Jungle.

He said he heard about Ali’s Rope-a-Dope technique but thought he could pound him anyway. So he went into that fight full of confidence that an older Ali could never beat the young, heavy-punching Foreman.

He said he got Ali up against the ropes and found out what it was all about. Ali ducked and dived missing punch after punch while Foreman was wearing himself out trying to connect.

His words: “Ali was on the rope…I was the dope!”

When We Were Kings was such a great documentary. That was my first real introduction to Ali.
