At this point, I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if Philips came out and switched parties. He represents a fairly Republican area of the state, as far as our state has Republican areas, so his election as a Democrat is already relatively unusual.

How close is this getting to the political suicide of Phillips now getting primaried from his left by a Democrat and him not having the support to successfully get the endorsement of the GOP and then successfully holding onto the seat?

(I won’t say it’s impossible since the incumbent county DA here just essentially did that. Lost the Democratic primary. The local GOP offered to endorse him and he was on the ticket as such. And won.)
