To be fair, it was the sister city of the town he was mayor of. I mean I think it’s kind of quirky too but it was the age of glasnost too. I mean definitely not a move you do if you have serious presidential aspirations down the road but i highly doubt Bernie in the late 80’s thought he would be where he is now.

You pair that up with the actual fact that he was an elector for a Marxist political group in 1980 and the questions start to…ahem…arise.

It is absolutely the sort of thing that gets people denied in security clearance checks and it is one hell of a leap to ask voters to cast all that aside and put him in charge of a military that he is on the record for wanting to disband completely.

Since this has come up, the story of Trump and Putin is getting legs as well, and his refusal to release his taxes may well stem from Russian ties he does not want to admit to.
