re: #139 Hecuba’s daughter

That has been one source of irritation in our phone calls to our Texas brother. He was trying to argue that if a store won’t serve you, just go to a different store. He was not pleased when we suggested that Texas had a history of being among the racist discriminatory states in the union. It is appalling that, in 21st century America, people are still supporting these outrageous arguments that should have died with the Jim Crow South. The RW news media and their lapdog GOP party have poisoned the minds of millions of Americans and, unless we find some way to stop them, people will continue to be infected.

If you’re a business generally open to the public then you must serve all the public. It’s really not difficult to understand. I always laugh when I see those “we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone” signs, because, widely speaking, that right doesn’t exist.

Yes, if someone is being rude or harassing to staff or customers, you can remove them. But the whole point of public accommodations laws is that you sell to everyone or you sell to no one.
