I’m trying to wrap my head around the reasoning here. Obama’s people are inept at actual management of the government but they’re consummate marketers, so they had to know that this proposal would raise a stink. So I’m going to brainstorm a set of rationales for this proposal:

1. Shinseki is secretly sabotaging the administration.
2. They want to say “If it’s good enough for the troops then it’s good enough for us.” “Us” being everybody else.
3. They want to sabotage the benefits of the all-volunteer force in order to advance a draft.
4. They want to demoralize the troops such that they won’t re-up and so there will have to be a draft.

Draft and socialized health care. A two-fer. Rahm is going to create a crisis and then use it.
