The Iowa Republican [Steve King] is once again advocating to “clarify” the portion of the 14th Amendment that protects birthright citizenship. The Amendment states that “all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.” King is not opposed to the Amendment on its face, but maintains that the framers did not account for illegal immigration.
