As a former West Virginian, you have to realize that West Virginia really doesn’t have much flat space, at least nowhere near enough for even an airport the small size of Yeager, much less a full featured one. Flattening out a hilltop was the best they could do (and it’d likely have to be at a hilltop to avoid any worrisome crashes). Yeager is probably the best they could do within a reasonable distance from the capital and largest city in the state.
