The electric chair blatantly violates the Eight Amendment.

The death penalty in general does. The Amendment prohibits “cruel or unusual punishments” (not “cruel and unusual”, like most people misquote it).

Argue as you will about whether the death penalty is cruel, there’s no way to deny that nowadays it’s unusual.
