Developing nations see the developed nations’ insistence on environmental protection and sustainability as a subtle way to hold them back from “joining the club.” After all, the “First World” got to where we are now by ravaging the environment. the “Third World” figures why not do the same.

Not that I agree, but I understand their point of view…like asking your kid not to make the same stupid mistakes you made when you were their age.
