This is a great book… amazon.com Lots of great stuff about how it was shot, plus it has the Stanley Clarke short story that was the inspiration for it.

I bought that book when it first came out, because I wanted to know “how’d they do that?” The FX were pretty amazing, when compared to the SF shows on the telly and the big screen.

Even now, film makers take shortcuts when dealing with interplanetary flight. I was glad to see Interstellar using a rotating torus to provide “gravity,” but I’ve rarely seen a rotating space station like the one in 2001. The O’Neil habitat in Babylon 5 comes close, though.
