What was news back then was the weekly anti-war rallies, remember? The Code-pink sit-ins in San Fran and Cindy Sheehan and her rag tag bunch kissing up to Chavez in between camping trips to Crawford.
The out-of-power is shrill, and the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Yes, it can be agrued that ‘it is worse now’, sure, just like it could be argued that the left sidling up to avowed socialist dictators was ‘worse then’, or the right screaming about lying under oath (while the left poo-pooed the BJ) was worse then, or the left hollaring we were all gonna die ‘cause Reagan was antagonizing the big Bear or the right were whinging about Carter and his sweater…
