re: #129 WindUpBird

We need an NPR show about right wing gardening, we can show you step by step how you can plant rows of American flags and apple pies and copies of See I Told You So

Shortly after 9/11, I saw an article online about how to plant ‘victory gardens’.

I was startled, not having realized that we were going to commit so much of our resources to the war on terror that people would be encouraged to grow their own food. So I clicked.

Spiffy red-white-and-blue color schemes for your fall garden!

I hated that shit. I also hated the women’s magazines recycling all their berry-tart Fourth of July crap post 9/11, as special patriot faire, and I hated the signs with the flag/shopping bags on them.

The flag is not a shopping bag, or a foot item, or a garden theme.

I also continue to hate with an admittedly irrational passion the small town somewhere in the Midwest, I think it was, that cancelled their elementary-school field trip to the pumpkin patch after 9/11 out of ‘security concerns’. I realize that these good people were just scared out of their gourds, and acting foolishly, but I am annoyed by that to this day.

However, I deeply appreciate the Masai clan that gave the United States several cattle to help make good our loss.

This has been an out-of-season, totally random commentary on things I displaced my hysteria onto in the fall of 2001.
