The founders would not have been able to help with the issues relating to slavery. Slavery was already an intractable issue at the time of the founding, and it steadily got worse until the civil war started.
Those difficulties resulted in the infamous 3/5ths rule for House apportionment. Counting the slaves as equivalent to white inhabitants would have given the South more representatives than northern states. Counting the slaves as zero would have given the advantage to the North.
And abolishing slavery before forming the Republic was a non-starter, politically speaking.
