What they fail to understand is that some of us are black, and we don’t use the word. My parents hated the word. I hate the word and taught my kid to hate it because it is a derogatory term used to de-humanize others. I had to get on one of my nephew’s butts because he uses the word often, in my presence. He hasn’t done so since I told him I find it offensive. It’s not only some whites who find the term offensive, many of us do, too.
