re: #104 Backwoods_Sleuth

I was an EMT/firefighter at my local VFD back in Illinois.
We NEVER charged for ambulance calls.

NEVER, because property taxes supported our department and we were obviously not for profit.

The same goes for our village here.

The volunteer fire brigade here is run as a not-for-profit (but gets a hefty sum from the village board, and does not have to pay for water usage). The EMT part of the fire brigade does not charge to make a call or take someone to the hospital.

A helicopter flight from the nearest hospital would be a ton of money though. Iā€™m covered by the VA and my wife by Tricare, but most people here would quickly wind up in hock to their eyeballs to go to the hospital by helicopter.
