This is the Dyatlov Mystery, the seemingly inexplicable deaths if nine highly experienced Russian skiers in the Ural Mountains in 1959. Russia, of course, is the Land of Conspiracy Theories and there is an especially luxuriant growth of such claims surrounding the Dyatlov Mystery. There is a whole industry built around these CTs so naturally the wholly rational explanation recently offered by a Russian prosecutor has been met with scorn and derision.
