The funny thing about the Batman films is that the Tim Burton films from the 80s were actually the Nolan films of their day, dark and gritty when the last time most people had seen Batman was the Adam West series from the 60s. A Joker that killed people, Gotham depicted as a hive of scum and villainy, Bruce Wayne as a reclusive loner who depicted himself as an eccentric playboy. We see them as tame compared to today, but back then that was a major shock to people who’d grown up seeing Batman on TV running down the street with a smoking bomb.

I won’t lie, Adam West is still my favorite Batman.
