I think the majority of Americans these days don’t have a clue how the government works (by which I mean how it’s SUPPOSED to work IN THEORY). I know plenty of grown-ass adults who don’t understand that the House and the Senate are two separate entities, don’t understand that the president doesn’t have (OR IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE) unilateral dictatorial powers, and don’t have the slightest idea what the courts do.

I’d be the last person to call myself an expert, but I learned most of that “mechanics of government” stuff on Saturday mornings in the late 70s and early 80s watching Schoolhouse Rock on TV (which stuck with me more than anything I ever learned in actual school at the time).

I don’t have kids, so the last exposure to the public school system I’ve had was well over 30 years ago. Do they just not teach jack diddly shit anymore?
