On a semi-related note (criminal justice), I found this article that an imprisoned federal convict got only 188 months for “assault with intent to commit murder.” There are people who have received longer sentences for selling a few kilos of drugs to other adults! (and I’m not in favor of legalization).
Any inmate who tries to kill someone inside the prison (not talking about self-defense) — another inmate, staff, volunteers, contractors, or visitors, should get a life term. And if they already have a life term, it may be time for the death penalty (and I only favor that in such circumstances).
