In Michigan, gas is $0.10/gal cheaper if you pay cash, so, it’s always cash for gas and debit/credit for everything else.

I’ve seen that in a number of places. Using the appropriate credit card (Sunoco in my case) gets me $0.05/gal cheaper than the listed price at a Sunoco station. Enough of them on my errand loop route that I can conveniently fill up when necessary.

And if I know I’ll be traveling over to New Jersey for something I will delay filling up, or top off while I am over there since gasoline is cheaper there than in PA due to differences in state tax rates.
