Well, it’s the Bagua, in the center in the symbol of the Yin-Yang, and of course it is eight sided, many Feng Shui mirrors and devices used to orient a space use these symbols which are foundations of Chinese mythology, culture, religion, martial arts, medicine, etc.

Sounds interesting. I never delved into Chinese culture too much. I did live right near Chinatown in SF for two years and frequented many restaurants. Worked for the Chinese firm — specifically from Hong Kong.
