Yes, this was long before that was understood (I’m kind of old). I went to a small high school and an assembly was called in the gym which was darkened. When the lights came up there were five young guys in cages. Each spoke in turn about their crime and the time they were facing (all at least 20 years). I was 16 or 17 and I have not forgotten that.
