re: #145 ozbloke

reine, with respect the press do this often.
If if was that simple he could have been charged ages ago.

I’m again lost.
What are we talking about? It seems to keep changing.
Are we talking about charges being brought against Assange?

I’m not the gov’t, and so I will never bring charges against Assange.
I am a private citizen, and I can look at information and facts, and yes, I can draw a conclusion that a person has been engaged in nefarious activities. And I can do that, even if Glenn Greenwald decides that a particular source of information doesn’t fit his personal needs for information.

The “presumption of innocence” does not apply to a private citizen’s thought process. I can legally draw the conclusion that Assange has engaged in activities that are not to my liking, and that very well may be illegal (see my post that you linked to earlier, upthread).

If you are interested in a discussion of how “innocent until proven guilty” plays in US law and life, this might be helpful.

NOTE: There is no requirement for a private citizen to ignore whatever information is available when making a private determination that a person is an asshole and an idiot, and engaged in very shady activities.

All of the above is presented on my assumption that the conversation changed per your last comment to me, where you started talking about somebody being charged with something, which I assume you were talking about Assange being charged with something, along with your prominent display of a previous post of mine where I accuse Assange of stealing and you disagree.
