We had a tomcat when I was a kid whose only true enemy was a possum. He came home torn up one day. We kept him in for a couple of weeks until he healed, and then he came back a few days later torn up again. After that recovery, he never came home hurt again. Not sure what happened to the possum.

He wasn’t a house cat even though we got him from the pound. He came home twice a day when he was hungry, and occasionally spent the night. When we moved, we left him with the new owners (it was a condition of selling) because he wouldn’t have moved.
