Press: Question, Mr. Bryce, why won’t you attend this event?

At the same time it raises Ms. Myers’s profile, being at a public event that right now is at the forefront of a lot of voters minds.

If the event works for her, it will raise her in the polling. If she gains momentum, then Mr. Bryce is left trying to decide if a debate is worthwhile after all.

Mostly debates are public spectacles though. Romney won his first debate against Obama not because he had better ideas but because he engaged in a Gish Gallop.

What we don’t need is “well, he wouldn’t engage in a debate with her and he won the primary, so I’m not going to vote for him” purity nonsense when he is engaging in standard political strategy for any candidate. That gets us the Nazi.
