The DNC has a major opportunity in this shutdown to show that they are a united party that can withstand the strain of media pressure to “go along to get along” because to do otherwise is seen as “unpopular.” The days of Ron and Tip sitting in the Oval Office over drinks and hammering out an agreement are long gone, we’re dealing with the GOP that vowed those days would never come back. They have chosen to pursue shutdowns as a means of extracting through hostage-taking what they could not get through negotiation legislation. If the DNC does not put that to a halt now, it will continue forward even if we do retake the White House in 2020 because the GOP will continue to believe that they just have to endure negative press longer than the DNC to win.
