The problem for the US regarding an Israeli strike on Iran is Iraq. If we allow Israeli aircraft to overfly Iraq, the political blowback in that country will be nothing short of massive. The Iraqi people may have found things to like about America, but they remain rabid Jew-haters.

We could have helped the Israeli aircraft fly around by refueling them.

The problem is, either Israel stops the Iranian nuclear program before they get the bomb, or Iran gets nuked afterwards.
