If it’s any consolation, eventually the Democrats are going to overreach and execute bad ideas, the current crop of ideologues will fail badly enough that saner ones will come to power, the Republican presidential candidates who get the nomination because “it’s their turn” will die off, and there will be a Republican resurgence.

I really don’t think it’s going to happen for a decade at this rate, though. We’re just at the beginning of a Democratic resurgence, I think; Obama’s a pretty good politician, at least as good as Clinton but more energetic and less prone to personal character flaws. (Smoking excepted; the first Republican who wishes lung cancer on our President gets a punch in the nose, courtesy me.) And the Republicans are driving off the cliff with the pedal on the floor.

It’s going to be a long, long trip in the wilderness…
