My (brown, latina) wife told me the other day “Honey, there is no fucking way we are ever visiting Arizona. Ever. I’m not really into being locked up for looking like a possible Mexican.”

It’s also worth noting that her formerly EXTREMELY conservative family has decided that they are never voting for any Republican candidate, ever again, at any level. They know the GOP hates them for who they are. My wife’s father, who loved Bush, said the last time we went to visit them “I’ll never be a liberal, but i’ll probably vote Democratic for the rest of my life. Those people hate us. They really hate us.” Her father is 58 years old, and has never voted for any candidate, at any level, who wasn’t a Republican, in his entire life.

This is the consolation I take during these times. The GOP is shitting on people, and it sucks to watch, but as time passes, all the people they hate are getting the message loud and clear.
