re: #151 RogueOne

My dad was a chaplain at the local county jail for almost 15 years. They let me take a guy in work release all the way to Green Bay WI for 2 weeks. They also let me take a guy on home arrest to Denver for 3 months. A couple of the judges in town go out of their way to give guys 2nd chances. Out of all the guys from work release/jail trustees we used over the years only one screwed up. The others appreciated the opportunity and made the best of it.

Heh. Our city jail guys are allowed to wear civilian clothes on work-release. The county makes them wear orange, and it’s common to see them unguarded in the area of the courthouse. The county north of us makes our trusty volunteers wear the old broad black/white stripes. Without the clothing it’s hard to tell when our roofers are free or work-release. We’ve had guys work with us to get out of the cells for a while, then continue to volunteer after they are paroled. (On the other hand, our jails have a couple guys who should be welded permanently to the bars.) Telling the difference is a tough art for the officials.
