I dunno. It’s kind of out of my comfort zone. I can’t figure out what people like her— assuming she does believe what she’s saying— use to figure out the world. I don’t get how someone can believe so many things that are easily demonstrably untrue.

It seems exhausting, and I have difficulty believing that people can really be so ‘dumb’ as to just believe it all without putting some conscious effort into rejecting information they don’t want to hear.

Slacktivist has written about this a little—specifically, in the area of people preserving their ideas about the UN by filtering out information to the contrary, but I think it works for all sorts of issues and all points on the political spectrum.

People who believe in a particular viewpoint on life, rather than individual facts, are always running the risk of playing this game with themselves.
