re: #154 dell*nix

The BLM has screwed with a lot of people over land and water use. After my unlce had most of the kinks worked out of a geo-thermal power system he developed on land he owned they tried to charge him for use of it. They were still in court when he passed away.

Thing is, Bundy never owned the land. He had a lease to graze his cattle on the land, but decided 20 years ago that he wasn’t going to pay the grazing fees anymore because he didn’t like the new terms of the lease. He was restricted to 150 heads of cattle, but he’s grazing ten times that many. He was restricted to 158,000 square miles, but his cattle are now spread out over 750,000 square miles. There’s so many of them running around that there’s actually feral cattle now who are running wild on federal land because he’s not keeping proper track of them.

He’s not even really asserting he owns the land, he’s asserting that since his family’s been grazing the land since the 1800s, then he has grazing rights that the federal government is denying him. And says that the federal government can’t own the land, only the State of Nevada can, which probably has to do with the State not demanding fees for grazing cattle on the land.
