It would be in the long term interest of both the Republican Party and the nation as a whole if the Trump/Carson faction left the GOP. If they come in a distant third (Buddha willing), maybe they disengage from the political process and our system becomes a bit more sane. It also gives the GOP a chance to moderate/modernize on social issues (I don’t expect abortion to go away as an issue, but I could imagine a world where it is minimized), and be something of a “pro-business” center-right party.
