Except that Republican-run states have instituted additional onerous id requirements that can be difficult for minorities to acquire. The offices that provide the ids may not be available in easily accessible locations or open during convenient hours. These states also reduce early voting sites and hours; in practice, many lower income people cannot take time off work to vote and may rely on weekend voting which is no longer as available as in prior years.

The Supreme Court Shelby County vs Holder decision basically gutted the Voting Rights Act, allowing states free rein to restrict voting. It doesn’t take many votes to turn the results of an election; so far Republicans are doing their best to make it harder for many of our voters to exercise their rights
