Yeah, this is exactly what I thought went on all those months ago when the Beltway reported that Trump’s lawyers had been seen at the DOJ:

You kind of wonder why he had that meeting with them at all, if his mind wasn’t about to be moved, but I think it was simply a matter of observing all the forms and formalities of the process. Leave them no avenue with which to appeal. They had their chance to dissuade the prosecutors from pressing charges; they had their motion practice; they had their discovery; they had their day in court. They can argue before the appeals court until the cows come home, but the procedures were followed by the book. Which is now being thrown at him.
