Attack, kill, poison gas canisters? What exactly are we talking about?

There is nothing wrong with questioning Sotomayor on her “Wise Latina” comment. She deserves to be questioned about it. Doing that will not release poison gas.

Obama has admitted that it was dumb thing to say.

How many people even know she said it?

The point should be made that if any Republican President’s nominees had made a comparable comment, they never would have been confirmed.

How many people here would have wanted Justice Roberts appointed if he had said the following:

I would hope that a wise white male with the richness of his experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a Latina woman who hasn’t lived that life.

If it is inevitable that she will be approved, Republicans should not fall on their swords trying to defeat her. Okay, that’s obvious. But she should be questioned about “Wise Latina” — if only to let people know she said it.

She should be questioned about a lot of things. Like every nominee. It should be done politely, with decorum.

Calling her a racists is not wise. Even if you think she is.

Here is her Wise Latina comment in context:

Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences, a possibility I abhor less or discount less than my colleague Judge Cedarbaum, our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging. Justice O’Connor has often been cited as saying that a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases. I am not so sure Justice O’Connor is the author of that line since Professor Resnik attributes that line to Supreme Court Justice Coyle. I am also not so sure that I agree with the statement. First, as Professor Martha Minnow has noted, there can never be a universal definition of wise. Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.

Seems to me, context only makes her statement worse.

Once again, how many people even heard these words? Is this what Obama means by empathy? This is a question that should be asked.

Go Lakers.
